The more time I spend working with educators and schools on the effective and intentional (and hopefully wise) integration of AI into the Teaching and Learning Journey, the more sophisticated and robust my evidence-based belief (and passionate argument) becomes that: By not integrating AI into education, schools are guilty of the sin of resource gluttony!
Gluttony is “over-indulgence and over-consumption.” Thus, resource gluttony, in the case of education, would be unnecessarily indulging and consuming resources (time, people, spaces: things that cost money) that AI could and should replace.
Hyperbolically speaking, AI is the avenging angel sent by the gods of education to help schools redeem themselves of the sin of resource gluttony. AI, as our gracious and selfless partner, will allow us to recapture and reallocate our resources into educational places and spaces where AI should not roam.

Working with a few schools to address their resource gluttony got me thinking about schools that lack resources. I began to articulate the specific resources many schools worldwide do not have access to. That’s when I had this epiphany: Artificial Intelligence has emerged as the beacon of access, allowing schools to transcend previous, seemingly unsurmountable barriers. AI promises a transformative, sustainable, and global equalization in delivering an education.
AI is bridging the divide between schools with abundant resources and those struggling to access them. Just as well-resourced schools begin to integrate AI to reallocate people and reclaim time, so will low-resourced schools now adopt AI to provide what they, thus far, did not have—due to all the reasons we already know.
Here are six components of an AI master plan to level the playing field and assist low-resourced schools to leap-frog ahead into their rightful place in our previously access-defined eco-system.
- Personalized Learning Paths: AI-powered tools analyze student data, learning styles, and progress to create tailored learning paths. Imagine a classroom where each student receives customized assignments, quizzes, and resources based on their unique needs; for all this, there is no longer a need for more people or more time. AI does it.
- Intelligent Tutoring Systems: Traditional tutoring is often limited by time and resources. It takes people, and it costs money. AI changes the tutoring game by offering 24/7 virtual tutors. These systems provide instant feedback, answer questions, and guide students through complex topics. Whether algebra or Shakespearean sonnets, AI tutors patiently assist, fostering more profound understanding. Again, all this support with no increase in resources.
- Automated Grading and Feedback: Teachers spend countless hours grading assignments. AI steps in, automating the process. It evaluates essays, coding projects, and even artwork. But it doesn’t stop there: AI provides meaningful feedback, highlighting areas for improvement and celebrating strengths. Teachers, therefore, take the time saved and can focus on targeted interventions, deepening relationships, and nurturing growth. Thank you, AI.
- Language Translation and Accessibility: In classrooms with students from diverse linguistic backgrounds, we are now able, with AI-powered language translation tools, to break down language barriers. It enables teachers to communicate seamlessly with students who speak different languages. Additionally, AI ensures that educational content is accessible through text-to-speech and closed captioning, benefiting students with special needs.
- Early Intervention and Predictive Analytics: AI analyzes student performance patterns, identifying where every child is on the learning curve. It knows at any given moment when a student’s progress deviates from the norm. Teachers receive timely alerts, allowing them to intervene early and accurately. Whether addressing learning difficulties or emotional well-being, AI ensures we have our eye, hand, and heart on every child. Thank you.
- Creativity Enhancement: Contrary to the fear that AI stifles creativity, it boosts creative thinking. AI-generated prompts inspire students to write poetry, compose music, or design virtual worlds. By collaborating with AI, students explore new horizons, unearthing hidden talents. Our art departments have just become profoundly more resourced!
AI is forcing the haves to rethink and restructure their resources while, in parallel, allowing the have-nots or those that have-less to now HAVE. The promising vision ahead is where AI continues to evolve as our colleague, allowing schools and educators to ensure every student has access to a profoundly personalized, high-quality education regardless of money, people, or other resources. The great equalizer is not a distant dream; it’s unfolding before our eyes. Let us embrace AI as a partner in education, propelling us toward a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow.
